De Witte Ezel
Through the soft leaves of the bushed in front of you, you see all kinds of alien critters walk by, some even stranger than the others. Who are they?
Ever since I was little I’ve always had the urge to create my own world. As I am now starting to discover what kind of art I like to make, I went back to that idea.
This month, february of 2025, I started my newest project; Greetings from Garson-M. This project will hopefully be a worldbuilding project spanning multiple years. My goal is to create a lush alien planet, filled with all sorts of flora, founa, fungi and many cultures. This project lends itself to any type of media I can think of and like to create. So far it has been a wonderful outlet of my creativity and a fun project to do on the side while working on school assignments and commissions.
The exhibition
Background art of the video installation
At the end of last year, around november 2024 I was asked to arrange a small exhibition at Galerie de Witte Ezel, in Cultuurhuis Garenspinnerij, the cultural institure of Gouda. I have been going there for years and it’s a place very dear to my heart, so being able to have my first ever solo exhibition there felt really special. I was very stuck on what to make at first, feeling some pressure around making something very “serious” and “good”. When the date got closer I scrapped all the ideas I had and started over. What I really wanted to show was planet Garson-M. The project that had been occupying my brain the most. I created a video installation along with large wooden cutouts of plants and some paper-mache sculptures of my aliens.
The exhibition spans from the 15th of february to the 22nd of march 2025. Throughout these 5 weeks the exhitbition will grow with new animations and new creatures being added, so be on the lookout for them!
